Maryland Gun Law Can Go Forward, Court says

BALTIMORE (AP) - A federal judge has refused to block implementation of Maryland's new gun control law.

U.S District Judge Catherine Blake in Baltimore on Tuesday said plaintiffs in two lawsuits failed to show that implementation would cause irreparable harm to prospective gun buyers and gun shops.

Blake refused to grant an emergency stay of the law. The plaintiffs' attorneys say they would continue to seek a court order to block the measures.

Tuesday's hearing comes on the same day the law took effect.

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) - The state of Maryland faces a second challenge to a gun-control law set to take effect Tuesday.

On Friday, a collection of gun shops, firearm associations and people with pending handgun permit applications filed the complaint in U.S. District Court in Baltimore. They're challenging a provision requiring prospective buyers to submit their fingerprints to obtain a handgun qualification license.

Court Battle Looms Over Maryland Guns Laws

HAGERSTOWN, Md (AP) – The state of Maryland is arguing its case for gun control.

The U.S. District court in Baltimore has given the attorney general’s office until noon Monday to file its response to a lawsuit filed law week by opponents of the state’s new gun control.

A court hearing is scheduled Tuesday, the same day the law is set to take effect.

The lawsuit says the law was passed in “flagrant disregard” of the gun rights guaranteed by the U.S. Construction’s Second Amendment.

Prosecutors Drop Gun Permit Charges Against Delaware Man

Jeremy Preston will not be facing felony charges for carrying a concealed firearm after he was stopped by police.  His Tennessee firearm permit expired when he obtained a Delaware driver’s license.

On Monday prosecutors dropped the charges.

The 33-year old Middletown engineer called the incident a Second Amendment nightmare.

Maryland Handgun Permit Law Constitutional

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A federal appeals court says Maryland's law requiring applicants for a permit to carry a handgun to have a substantial reason is constitutional.

A three-judge panel of the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Thursday unanimously overturned a March 2012 ruling by U.S. District Judge Benson E. Legg.

Rep. Andy Harris Holds Townhall on 2nd Amendment

OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) — Maryland Rep. Andy Harris has scheduled a town hall this weekend to talk about Second Amendment rights and gun-safety issues.

The Republican congressman's office said Tuesday the town hall will be held on Saturday in Ocean City.

The congressman's office says Maryland Delegates Mike McDermott and Charles Otto also are scheduled to attend.

In Annapolis, lawmakers are considering a comprehensive gun-control measure supported by Democratic Gov. Martin O'Malley.
