Maryland Police Shooting Leaves Man Dead

SALISBURY, Md. (AP) - Maryland State Police say troopers shot and killed a man who may have hit or dragged a trooper with his vehicle at the Salisbury barrack.

While the barrack's duty officer checked a repair to a man's vehicle in the parking lot on Tuesday night, he called for assistance.

Police say the duty officer and a second trooper who responded to help both fired their weapons and the duty officer was found on the edge of the parking lot with injuries consistent with being hit or dragged by a vehicle.

Traffic Stop in Salisbury Leaves Fugitive Shot to Death by Police

One person is dead after a shooting during a police traffic stop on North Salisbury Boulevard yesterday afternoon.

Maryland State Police say an armed man with two handguns was fatally wounded after police stopped his far in Wicomico County.

He was wanted by Delaware police.

The 25 year old man has not been identified by police pending notification of his family.

He was wanted by the Wilmington Police Department on handgun charges.

After being stopped the fugitive was warned not to put his hands in his pockets.

Georgetown Man Shot After Argument With Delaware State Trooper

GEORGETOWN, Del. (AP) - Delaware State Police say a trooper shot a Georgetown man when questioning about a hit-and-run crash turned into a violent struggle.

The trooper was questioning 53-year-old Michael Rogers at his home on Thursday night about his involvement in the crash, when police say an intoxicated Rogers became uncooperative and struggled violently with the trooper. Police say a stun gun was not effective and the trooper fired his gun several times, striking Rogers in his upper body and lower extremities.

Police Shooting by State Trooper

A sobriety traffic stop turned violent on Johnson Road in Salisbury Tuesday morning when Maryland State Trooper Richard Keidel pulled over Harry Wyatt-Swift.

Police say after being asked to take a sobriety test Wyatt-Swift got back into his car and started to drive away while holding onto the trooper’s arm.

Authorities say Keidel shot him fearing for his life and hit the driver in the stomach and in the side of his face.

The police report that the suspect let go with the trooper falling to the roadside as the car sped off.

Man in Critical Condition After Police Chase in Sussex County

LEWES, Del. (AP) - Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting by a state trooper in Sussex County that left a man in critical condition.

Authorities say at about 1 p.m. Tuesday, a trooper saw a man who had active warrants driving on Postal Lane. Police say the man sped away, driving through several yards as the trooper followed.

Officials say the vehicle crashed into another car and the suspect ran into a cornfield. The trooper and another state police officer chased the suspect.

University of Maryland Campus Police Officer Shot in Training Exercise

A University of Maryland campus police officer was critically wounded yesterday during a training exercise with Baltimore police.

The officer was shot in the head by his instructor at the Rosewood Center a closed state psychiatric hospital in Owings Mills.

Officials reported it as an accident but did not give out many details including why live ammunition was being used in a training environment.

Meanwhile, the Baltimore City Police Commissioner has suspended training pending a safety evaluation.

Alleged Wilmington Police Shooter Had History of Violence

Twenty-one year old Frederick Gray accused of shooting Wilmington City Patrolman Justin Wilkers over the weekend was being sought on a warrant for a probation violation.

But the warrant was not issued until a day after the shooting.

Gray had a history of violence with a 2008 conviction for shooting a teenager in the legs that sent him to prison for five years.

He was 16 when the shooting took place.

Gray now faces a first-degree murder charge among other counts in the shooting of Patrolman Gray.

Third Suspect Caught in Wilmington Police Shooting

Wilmington Police caught a third suspect in the weekend shooting of Patrolman Justin Wilkers

The Wilmington News Journal reports that authorities did not provide any further details about his identity.

21 year old Ronald Boyce and 20 year old Jared Wiggins were picked up on Sunday and have been charged.

The Associated Press describes Wiggins as the alleged driver of the suspect vehicle and has been charged with failing to obey a a police signal resisting arrest and providing a false statement.

Suspect Possibly Injured in Cambridge Police Shooting

 

            Police in Cambridge are searching for a suspect that may have been injured early Sunday morning in police shooting during a traffic stop.

            An officer is also recovering from non-life threatening injuries.

            The suspect is 39-year-old Demetrice Demby who could be seeking treatment.

            After being stopped for a traffic violation Demby’s 1995 Chevrolet truck was being examined by a K-9 unit when he suddenly drove away from the scene.

No Gun Found on Suspect in Somerset County Police Shooting

 

          Maryland Police say the man fatally shot by two state troopers in Somerset County was not found to have a weapon.

            Forty-nine year old Terry Diaz of Princess Anne was shot in the head following a chase with state police and County Deputies on Wednesday evening along Route 13.

            Trooper Ryan Watkins and Trooper 1st Class Carl Tyler have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

Somerset Shooting Suspect Identified

 

       PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (AP) - State police have identified a man shot and killed by troopers after a chase on the lower Eastern Shore.

     Police say 49-year-old Terry Diaz of Princess Anne was shot in the head after the chase in Somerset County Wednesday night. He died at the scene.

     Police haven't said why the troopers shot Diaz. Diaz's sport-utility vehicle was stuck in the mud in a grass median at the time, and he was inside the car. Police say the troopers gave Diaz verbal commands before they opened fire.
