Another Candidate Drops Out of Race Against Harris

Another candidate has backed out of running against Congressman Andy Harris.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that Bridget Kelly has pulled out of the race less than a month after entering the Democratic primary.

Earlier this month Harford County resident Joseph Werner dropped out to take a shot at county executive.

This leaves Chestertown physician John LaFerla and retired attorney Bill Tilghman still in the hunt for the Democratic nomination.

Congressman Harris Files For Reelection

Congressman Andy Harris has filed papers to seek another term in office after winning re-election two years ago with almost 64 percent of the vote.

The Eastern Shore Republican has turned in one of the most conservative records on Capitol Hill.

The Salisbury Daily Times notes that Harris voted against the Hurricane Sandy relief legislation saying the nation’s flood insurance program needed to be restructured.

In addition, he has voted for repealing the Affordable Care Act or ports of it dozens of times.

Congressman Andy Harris says he is not optimistic about the budget battles that loom within the coming months.

The Eastern Shore Republican told the Salisbury Daily Times that he expects that there will be another stopgap spending bill in January that maintains the current spending levels.

John LaFerla Plans Second Run Against Rep. Andy Harris

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Dr. John LaFerla is formally filing his candidacy for the Democratic primary next year to run in Maryland's 1st District congressional race.

LaFerla says he plans to file in Annapolis on Wednesday.

LaFerla barely lost the last primary for the 1st District to Wendy Rosen, who dropped out abruptly in 2012 after the state Democratic Party found out she had voted in Maryland and Florida in 2006 and 2008.

Rematch: Gilchrest Vs. Harris?

Voters in Maryland’s First Congressional District could be urged to cast their ballot for a familiar name.


The Salisbury Daily Times reports that former congressman Wayne Gilchrest has emerged as one of two possible Democratic challengers to incumbent Republican Andy Harris.


The resignation of Wendy Rosen as the party standard bearer after allegations of voter fraud came to the surface has caused Democrats to find a write in candidate.

LaFlerla Concedes in Congressional Democratic Primary for Maryland First District

 

            The Democratic Primary race for Maryland’s First Congressional district is finally over.

            Dr. John LaFerla, a Chestertown physician, has conceded to businesswoman Wendy Rosen.

            In an email LaFerla told supporters that he did not believe he could regain the lead in the vote count. 

            Rosen leads LaFlerla by 82 votes with a third and final absentee ballot count still set for Friday.
