Helping pets in need is something those who work in animal rescue do throughout the year. But International Homeless Animals’ Day – which is celebrated this week – puts a focus on homeless animals for those who don’t think about the issue on a regular basis.
International Homeless Animals’ Day is sponsored by the International Society for Animal Rights, and according to the organization’s website, the third Saturday of August is a day when the spotlight is put on what ISAR calls the “pet overpopulation epidemic.” That day is Aug. 18 this year.
WILLARDS, Md. (AP) - More than 20 small dogs found living in poor conditions on a property in Wicomico County are being put up for adoption.
David Fitzgerald, executive director of the Humane Society of Wicomico County, says all of the dogs are terrier mixes. Fitzgerald says the dogs were found living in outdoor kennels with high grass and weeds, water bowls that had been turned over and mold and mildew.
The owners of the dogs agreed to give the dogs to the humane society in order to avoid any penalties or enforcement action.
