Key Documents to be Released in Flowers Reimbursement Controversey

Delaware State Treasurer Chip Flowers is scheduled to release key travel documents today about a trip he took with his former deputy state treasurer Erika Benner to Alaska for a meeting of state treasurers.

During the four day conference the two took a sight seeing tour of some Alaskan parks. 

The Wilmington News Journal raised questions about whether the taxpayers may ahve pad for those excursions.

Flowers has denied taht taxpayers were asked to pay for those trips.

The documents will released at a news conference at the treasury office in Dover.

Delaware State Treasurers Chip Flowers says Delaware taxpayers did not pay for the excursion with his deputy to a national park in Alaska.

Flowers and his then-deputy, Erika Benner, did bill the state for extra days spent in Alaska after the National Association of State Treasurers conference in Anchorage in September of 2012.

The Delaware official says he met with bankers, financial experts and other state treasurers.

DOVER, Del. (AP) - State officials are questioning how Delaware Treasurer Chip Flowers has handled a review of questionable charges made by his former deputy on her state credit card before she was forced to resign.

The Wilmington News Journal reports state records show former Deputy Treasurer Erika Benner charged more questionable expenses than initially reported. Some of the expenses were for travel with Flowers when he made similar charges for trips to Washington, D.C., Seattle and Alaska.

DOVER, Del. (AP) - Delaware's state treasurer has accepted the resignation of his top deputy following her repeated unauthorized use of a state credit card.

Treasurer Chip Flowers said Monday that he has accepted Erika Benner's request to be removed from her position as deputy state treasurer.

The News-Journal of Wilmington reported over the weekend that Benner had racked up thousands of dollars in personal expenses on her state-issued credit card, including more than $1,000 for football tickets and private car service to a New England Patriots game.

DOVER, Del. (AP) – The Delaware deputy state treasurer racked up thousands of dollars in personal expenses on her state-issued credit card.

The Wilmington News Journal says Erika Benner’s expenses include more than $1,000 for football tickets and private car service to a New England Patriots game.

Benner has been out on short-term disability to seek treatment for an undisclosed medical condition. She was questioned about the charges in June by Finance Department officials.
