OC Church To Be Demolished After Fire

OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) - Leaders of St. Paul's by-the-Sea Episcopal Church have decided to demolish its rectory, which was destroyed in a fire that killed the pastor.

According to a church newsletter, leaders decided last month to demolish rather than renovate the rectory, which was destroyed on Nov. 16.

The Ocean City Fire Marshal's Office has said that 56-year-old John Sterner purchased gasoline, poured it on himself and set himself ablaze. Authorities say Sterner then ran into the church, and the fire to spread from him to the structure.

Ocean City Church Fire Survivor Back Home

It was almost six weeks of hospitalization for Dana Truitt who is now home after suffering severe burns and undergoing skin grafts from the injuries she received in the fire at St. Paul’s by the Sea Church in Ocean City.

That blaze left the Pastor David Dingwall dead after John Raymond Sterner came into the church with his clothes on fire from an apparent self-immolation.

Sterner also died in the November 26th fire.

Truitt says she has no memory of being taken from the scene or the time she spent at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.

Ocean City Mourns Loss

The pews were filled.

The sadness felt amidst the favorite color of Reverend David Dingwall.

Dingwall served as the pastor of the St. Paul’s by The Sea Episcopal Church for the last eight years.

Some people during his funeral service held at the St. Peters Lutheran Church yesterday called him a beacon of hope.

Carl Mosley told WBOC that Dingwall always did everything he could do to help people.

As difficult as his passing was how he died was even tougher.

Injured Person In OC Church Fire Identified

Dana Truitt has been identified as the women who was injured in the November 26th fire at the St. Paul’s By The Sea Episcopal Church in Ocean City which killed the Reverend David Dingwall.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that Bob Rothermel, a vestry member who spoke on behalf of St. Paul’s, confirmed that she was the hospitalized person.

She is now at the burn unit of Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore.

Truitt was initially sent to Peninsula Regional Medical Center.

Parishioners Remember Rev. David Dingwall

Around 150 gathered before a makeshift altar in the Ocean City Town Council Chambers yesterday.

They were parishioners from St. Paul’s By The Sea  church who showed up for the first worship service in the aftermath of the fire that killed the Reverend David Dingwall.

Many wore orange or pinned orange ribbons to their chest Dingwall’s favorite color.

His wife, Brenda, said that no matter how horrible the events were that led to her husband’s death “He was a child of God” to be kept in their prayers.

OC Church Fire Takes Life of Rev. David Dingwall (Update)

OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) - The Episcopal Diocese of Easton says the pastor of an Ocean City church is one of two people dead after a fire broke out in the rectory.

Bishop James Shand says the Rev. David Dingwall died after the fire at St. Paul's By-The-Sea Episcopal Church on Tuesday morning.

Town officials say one person was pronounced dead at the scene and a second person died later. A third person suffered life-threatening injuries.
