New Plans for Old Linens of the Week Property
Mayor Jim Ireton has delivered a plan to the Salisbury City Council for the future of the Linens of the Week property dividing it up into five home lots and donating them to an affordable housing developer.
The plan would change the zoning classification for the property and some surround lots to residential.
The proposal is expected to go before the Planning and zoning Commission on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Salisbury Daily Times reports that the Council said it approved of the plan in concept but raised questions about health risks from underground fuel tanks that could have contaminated the soil.
While the property has been clean up and given the blessing of the Maryland Department of the Environment the agency says vapor barriers should be installed below the foundation with a pile of topsoil to reduce future human contact.
