DOVER, Del. (AP) - Delaware lawmakers are considering a constitutional amendment aimed at making it easier for convicted felons to vote.
A bill to be considered by the House on Thursday would amend the state constitution to eliminate the five-year waiting period before eligible felons who have fully completed their sentences could have their voting rights restored.
The proposed amendment would have to pass two consecutive general assemblies before it could become law.
Maryland’s Senators Barbara Mikulski and Ben Cardin are now expressing their outrage at the decision to shut down the mail processing center in Easton and moving the operation to Hares Corner near New Castle in Delaware.
The Democratic Senators said it was their understanding that the Easton operation would move to the Baltimore plant.
Meanwhile, fellow Democrat Senator Tom Carper from the First State, who oversees the postal service, proposed the alternative plan in a bid to preserve the Hare’s Corner facility.
