Harp on This!

Harp on This! – an exploration of music composed for the harp, one of the oldest instruments in the world - hosted by Kara Dahl Russell. Kara has extensive experience as a performing artist and professional contralto & harpist.  She is a recognized artist: writer, designer, and  professional actress with international credits. She has received critical acclaim for her theatre work as an actress, director, and sound designer in D.C., NYC, and L.A.  She brings the combined knowledge of a life in the arts to share her love of the harp.

A new, locally produced 13 wk. music series that our listeners get to hear first, before it is offered to other NPR stations nationally.

Harpists always hear people exclaim with delight when they see the instrument, “…a harp!  I love the harp!”  Join us for this surprising variety of beautiful music in a “more music, less talk” format.  Over the series we’ll hear music played on a variety of modern and historic harp instruments:  concert (pedal) harp, celtic (lever) harp, early harps and reconstructions of various ancient harps.  Each individual episode strives to showcase the wide variety of soundscapes within harp repertoire.  The selections include solo works, duos, trios, chamber works and orchestral works… the works!
